The workhorse of the automated enclosure is the relay switched outlet box. The concept is pretty simple. We want to use a Raspberry Pi or other microcontroller with GPIO pins to send a low-voltage signal to control a set of electrical outlets. Using this device, we can control up to …

Blue Oysters - Flush 2 - 18 Aug 2023
Second flush of a blue oyster fruiting block in the automated enclosure.
Harvested about 9 hours too late. Still too much CO2, they have fuzzy feet. Enclosure v2 will solve this problem with a second FAE fan.

NOTE: Likely not contaminated
See the harvest post for this tub. I had no idea shiitake looked so weird. Perhaps there was some kind of competitor in this image, but it never propagated.
Preface:
I later found out that shiitake are not generally grown in monotubs, and they prefer sawdust …

Enclosure Automation
Update: Nov 7th
After a few months of working with the enclosure on a regular basis, I've discovered many shortcomings, listed below. It's definitely a start in the right direction, but will probably take a good while to refine this into a proper product.
- The ultrasonic humidifier, while a really …

One of the data points I wanted to include in the first version of the automated enclosure was the fan speed. Ultimately it's sort of a worthless data point so I didn't end up getting it to work before using the enclosure, but now I've had some time to circle …

Preface: I later found out that wine caps are generally grown in outdoor wood chip beds. According to the North Spore substrate compatibility guide, wine caps in a monotub is an experimental procedure.
Contaminant: Trichoderma
Vector: Compromised substrate packaging
This is a picture of a contaminated Boomr Bag. Notice the …

This is a tale of the golden oyster boys.
It starts off, like these stories do, filled with hope and ambition.
Look at all the baby mushrooms!
Except, they all died. They suffocated. Drowned in their own CO₂.
Then I chopped them into pieces...
... right before I ate them.
They …
